FUFC Foundational Friday Webinar: Is Your Tree Abuse the Same as Mine? Determining Whether an Abused Tree Shall Be Restored or Removed

Friday, May 29, 2026 (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

Co-Speakers: John Harris, Earth Advisors & John Snow, Tree Check-Up

Title: Is Your Tree Abuse the Same as Mine? Determining Whether an Abused Tree Shall Be Restored or Removed.

Abstract: We are continuing to test our research results, and our recommendations, with our FUFC peer group, with presenting more terms and definitions from our Model Municipal Tree Ordinance for Florida project. This session focuses on two terms that are key to the health and structure of our urban forests in Florida communities. Protecting trees from abuse, and requiring industry standards for maintenance, is as basic as it gets for why to have tree protection codes. Related to what is or is not Tree Abuse is the determination of whether a tree is Effectively Destroyed in codes that use that term. Lets discuss the use of these terms and some of the conflicting decisions that are being made about prescribing restoration versus deciding that removal and replacement is the one action to prescribe.
